There are many of us that slave over what we are going to wear to work. Outfits are methodically picked out for the next day and capsule wardrobes are expertly applied depending on the time of year. Some people are lucky enough, depending on how you look at it, to have uniforms and can spend less of their money and ultimately time, worrying about what to wear since they know what they have to put on every day.
So, what about the rest of the population who may be unsure of what to wear to work? Some companies do have a strict dress code and as one of those employees, it would behoove of you to apply that to your wardrobe if you want to keep your job. But for the individual who doesn’t really know what to wear there are a couple of things you should consider if you’re just trying to establish a baseline.
- What is everyone else wearing? If everyone has on tee-shirts and jeans, you know you can do the same.
- What does the job entail? If you are hefting boxes or trudging through weeds, a skirt and heels is probably not a good choice. Dress accordingly.
- Should you care? And that’s really the kicker, isn’t it? Answer… Yes and no. If everyone else is wearing jeans and a teeshirt and you’d rather wear a full suit, why the hell not? As long as it doesn’t break laws or go against company policy, you do you!
At the end of the day, clothing is an expression of self. Find what ultimately makes you comfortable and happy, and stays within the guidelines of your workplace and you’ll be just fine. If that’s not a good enough answer you always can look on Instagram or Pinterest for inspiration to get you started.
